The road less traveled lies south of downtown Dallas Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. This area has the best of all worlds - it is close enough to shop Neiman Marcus or the regional Discount Mall, or to see the Dallas Cowboys, Rangers, Stars, Texas Motorplex, Six Flags over Texas, Dallas Symphony, Ballet, Opera. Come HOME to the family communities where you will feel like you can make a difference and be involved in your children's lives, and your place of worship. A place to make friends for life!
Check out Waxahachie, the county seat of Ellis County, my hometown. Waxahachie is a cultural center much like Dallas, but on a smaller scale. It is just twenty-eight miles south of downtown Dallas and complete with it's own extensive industrial base. Property taxes are lower and public benefits are higher. Waxahachie public schools excel academically and vocationally, and have been Texas State Champs in football, basketball, and baseball. Waxahachie is constructing a Civic center and boasts about the YMCA, the Sims library, the Ellis County Museum, Chautauqua Auditorium, Ellis County's Boy's and Girl's Club, Gingerbread Trail, Crape Myrtle Festival, Scarborough Faire, and Baylor Medical Center.
Golf at dozens of Dallas/ Fort Worth area championship golf courses, including eighteen holes at the Waxahachie County Club, or watch the pros at the Byron Nelson and Colonial Invitational each year. Play tennis in Ennis at the Colonial Tennis Club. Enjoy the Polka Festival, National Drag Races at the Texas Motorplex, and the Bluebonnet Trails. Visit the Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum located thirty-five miles south of Dallas. Midlothian is twenty-five miles from downtown Dallas and Ft. Worth, making it the growing popular location for rural housing subdivisions with lots of elbow room for growing families. Nearby Joe Pool Lake provides drinking water and recreation. Midlothian Independent School District offers a full range of technical, vocational and academic courses - including gifted, special education, and advanced placement courses. Red Oak and Ovilla in northwest Ellis County are merging with the south Dallas County towns of DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, and Lancaster. These suburban and progressive communities are closer to downtown Dallas and provide a variety of advantages including shopping, schools, hospitals, and housing. With Highway 360 being lengthened from DFW airport to Highway 287 and 287 Bypass around Midlothian, the Waxahachie area will continue to gain strength.
